Using the power of GitHub Codespaces to launch your productivity
Did you ever try to join an open-source project and quit because you where not able to get the development environment running?
What is the most time consuming when joining a new team? Setting up the development environment is one of the topics I see the most.
Documentation that is not maintained. Versions that are different. Laptops that do not perform as hoped when running builds. Joining a new team puts a lot of stress and frustration to developers.
In this presentation I'm going to show you a new way to solve these issues by using the new technologies available today. A combination of cloud based compute and ready to go development containers.
Freedom in isolation with vCluster and AKS
On a rainy Monday morning the new Team Lead requested test environments for their latest proof of concepts.
While searching for a solution to provide teams with short lived environments, we have looked at several solutions, from namespaces on a shared cluster, all the way to fully fledged Terraform managed environments.
While we can provision Kubernetes clusters for all our teams, our current setup does not make that easy. As the Platform Team we like to keep our focus on operating the primary systems and not drown in requests for new environments.
In this talk I'll show how we finally solved these requests from our teams by utilising the Loft vCluster project to give freedom to dev teams while not breaking the bank with hundreds of clusters.
Audit your AKS cluster using Gatekeeper and Azure Policy
Every organization has policies. Some are essential to meet governance and legal requirements. Others help ensure adherence to best practices and institutional conventions. But how are you going to verify the policies in modern infrastructure?
Ever wondered what all these pods are doing inside your AKS cluster? Where do they all come from? In this session I'm going to show you how you can use Open Policy Agent Gatekeeper to enforce policies. I will show you how to get started and we will work on some basic policies
If we have some policies I'll show you how you can use Azure Policy to verify and enforce the policies on your AKS cluster while giving the developers the freedom they like and the security teams the visibility they need.
You'll leave this session with an overview of Gatekeeper and have an idea how Gatekeeper will be able to help you audit and enforce your policies.
Power naps, self care and mental health
The year is 2014. A young, restless engineer is trying to manage 2 datacenters, 90 developers and the internal IT at a fast growing startup. It was a fun and wild ride, but also the start of a downward spiral that took me out for 6 months. This time has taught me a lot. Not only about myself, but also about culture.
In this talk I’ll share the personal story about my recovery and the key elements that til today still form the basis for my personal mental fitness, in the hope it can help others.
While I never expected I would need to fall back to these lessons, the past years have shown we need to keep paying attention to our mental wellness. We never know when we might need it (again).
When you attend this talk you will walk away with 3 actionable habits that will improve your mental fitness, creativity and endurance.
Whispering to OpenAI
I talk a lot, mostly with myself. For the last few years, I’ve made a lot of voice memos. I find it an ideal way to organize my thoughts while taking a short walking break or commuting home.
One big downside is that voice memos are not as easily searchable. So, searching back for specific information is challenging.
In this talk, I explain the Whisper model from OpenAI and create a system with Azure OpenAI to get transcripts from my voice memos. I also use the GPT4 model to enhance the transcript with extra information.
When you leave the session, you understand what Whisper and GTP4 can do for you and hopefully go inspired to build your own workflow.
Integrating Azure Kubernetes Service and Azure OpenAI to build intelligent apps
In this session, we'll explore the world of Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and discover how it's the backbone for integrating cutting-edge Azure services, like Azure OpenAI, into your applications.
I'll also show you how to craft resilient, scalable applications like a pro, using modern practices to enhance your infrastructure's scalability and reliability. Plus, we'll explore the ins and outs of automation with CI/CD using GitHub, so your projects stay ahead in the race.
By joining me in this session, you'll gain a deep understanding of how to architect and deploy impactful, intelligent applications on Azure. And let's be real - who doesn't want to be a digital superstar? So, grab a seat, and let's get started on taking your Azure app development game to the next level!
