Dawn is a Veterinary Social Worker at the Vancouver Humane Society, where she supports low-income pet guardians in crisis through the McVitie Veterinary Assistance Program. She is also the founder of a private counselling and consulting practice focused on grief and loss, the human-animal bond, and building capacity within social service systems. With a background in social work, psychology, and animal welfare, Dawn offers trauma-informed emotional support, education, and advocacy for individuals navigating systemic barriers to veterinary care, housing, and wellness. She has eight years of experience working primarily with Indigenous communities on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside and is committed to practicing cultural humility and supporting Indigenous-led, community-centered solutions. Her work emphasizes inclusive program development and cross-sector collaboration to ensure that pets are recognized as part of the family—especially for those often excluded from public health and social service systems.
