With this talk we will dive into the intriguing intersection of web performance optimization and environmental conservation, focusing on how improving Web Vitals — the key indicators of a website's health and user experience — can lead to a more sustainable digital footprint.

We will explore the core Web Vitals: Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), Interaction to Next Paint (INP), and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), and how these metrics influence not only the user experience but also the efficiency of web resources. We'll discuss the direct and indirect environmental impacts of web operations, including energy consumption of data centers, network infrastructure, and end-user devices.

The session will highlight case studies and practical examples where optimizing web performance led to reduced data transfer, lower server loads, and decreased energy consumption while improving user experience. We'll explore strategies such as efficient resource loading, image and video optimization, code minification, and the use of green web hosting, all aimed at enhancing Web Vitals.

Building a superfast portfolio page

In this session we are going to build our own portfolio page, focusing on performance and modern methodologies. We will cover the basics in terms of Web Vitals and explain why frameworks like Astro and Next give us fundamental advantages compared to traditional SPA frameworks. In the end of the workshop, whoever participates will have a foundation to continue building their portfolio page on their github profile.
