Platform Engineering, but make it Cloud Native

In this day and age, it is impossible for the Dev or the Ops person to get any work done without stepping on the other's toes. As Shane Wang stated in his article, "the outcome (of DevOps) was mostly Ops people doing more Dev to keep up with the Joneses."
This talk focuses on the open-source project, Epinio, that tames your developer workflow to go from Code to URL in one push.

The WebAssembly Component Model: Building blocks of our declarative future

The WebAssembly specification has gained phenomenal traction with its recent adoption by major industry players like Adobe, Google, and, more recently, Docker. It is no longer just restricted to the browser and is finding its way into server-side applications too! One of the major & recent developments in the ecosystem is that of the component model.
In this talk, the speaker will delve into the component model proposal for WebAssembly by discussing the motivations for its existence. With the help of analogies, the speaker will guide the audience through the various nuts and bolts of the proposal in detail. At the end of the session, the speaker aims to arm the audience with a working knowledge of the component model and resources to pursue further research and get involved in the Wasm community, should they wish to.

Oh, bring back my logging to me: Log Anomaly Detection using AIOps

Despite the rich information contained in them, traditionally, logs have always been used as a last resort during production incidents. While metrics and tracing data are often proactively monitored for any anomalies, very little attention is paid to the data in logs. With its pre-trained models for the Kubernetes control plane, Rancher, and Longhorn, the Opni project empowers its users to apply AI and machine learning on the log data toward gaining valuable insights from their infrastructure. What's more? You don't need any additional GPUs to do this!
In this session, the speaker will walk through the configuration and setup of a basic Opni installation on the Rancher desktop, demonstrate a few use cases, and delve into the project's future roadmap.

Improving the "DevOps" experience with Epinio

Kubernetes has become the de-facto standard for container orchestration. However, the associated onboarding & learning curves are pretty steep. Consequently, the developer experience is lowered by the associated operations tasks that a developer needs to perform for getting an application up & running. Add to this, the overheads incurred by many operations teams toward the design & maintenance of internal developer platforms that are self-service in nature owing to shifts in industry trends.
This is the challenge that SUSE's open source project, Epinio, addresses. It offers an abstraction layer built on Kubernetes to simplify the developer & operator experience. As a developer, you can directly deploy applications with the Epinio CLI & paketo buildpacks onto a K8s cluster without having to worry about the nuts & bolts. As an operator, Epinio empowers you to focus on enforcing guardrails around setup & deployment by working directly with the cluster.
With this session, the speaker aims to arm the audience with a beginner-level understanding of Epinio & empower them to try it locally by covering the following topics:
- Kubernetes & the rise of Platform engineering
- What is Epinio?
- Architecture
- Live demo of installing Epinio
- Roadmap
- How to get involved
