Tracking Copilot for Microsoft 365 Utilization with Fabric
Struggling to get the most out of your Copilot for Microsoft 365 investment? Honestly, you are not alone. Many organizations struggle to get the most out of the Microsoft 365 platform, but do not have quality metrics to track utilization. With the introduction of Microsoft Fabric, it is easier than ever as an administrator to get the most out of your Fabric investment!
In this session, you will learn how you can take data that is available to you today within Microsoft Graph and quickly deploy it for your own internal use. We will go through the architecture required to build out the solution, steps to implement it, and even review some reporting to help you get the most out of your overall investment. Regardless of your experience with Fabric, this will be an easy session to follow!
By the end of this session, you will understand the basic components of Microsoft Fabric and how to implement this solution within your organization!
Harnessing Hidden Potential in Power Query
Many of us have heard that we should be performing as many transformations upstream when using Power Query. While this is a noble cause, it is not always practical. For many, Power Query is a tool that can help extract data from different sources that might not be within our control. The result requires you to leverage Power Query for your transformations. But with a few adjustments, you could end up getting the most out of the tool.
In this session, we will explore some of the hidden secrets of Power Query that can transform how you manage data in Power BI. We will explore how to manipulate data connections, aggregate data, merge/append queries, create dimensions, invoke custom functions, and manage queries with parameters. We will even dive into how to modify some of our transformations within the advanced editor by writing a few lines of code. We will also explore some best practices to help optimize our queries.
At the end of this sessions, attendees will understand some of the techniques to help expand their utilization of Power Query as they go to create their own solutions in Power BI.
Building a Sustainable Data Culture
In the last few years, the expectation has grown that users outside of the information technology department are to build their own reporting solutions. The result has left IT leaders scrambling to create a sustainable data culture that not only enables these users, but also protects their environment. Without a strategy in place, organizations end up creating restrictive policies that destroy that initial spark of a data culture.
In this session, we will share some of the key components that help foster a sustainable data culture that is easy to manage. We will explore components such as content ownership, lifecycle management, data management, training/adoption, and auditing of the Power BI platform that help drive a healthy data culture. We will also highlight some of the challenges that might arise as you embark on your journey.
At the end of this session, attendees should know the right questions they need to start asking as they start to develop a strategy for their organization.
Simulating Scenarios with Power BI
What if we could predict the future? Forecasting helps us see what could happen, but what if you want to prepare for the worst-case scenario? What if you want to see how changes in headcount could impact your store sales? Could I turn our data into a coaching tool to help leaders and individual contributors alike understand how they can make a difference?
If you have ever considered how you could simulate different scenarios within Power BI this session is for you! We will look into how to you can leverage What If parameters for simple scenarios with a couple of clicks and keystrokes. Have lots of inputs and adjustments you could make? See how easy it is to embed a Power App directly into your report to manage the simulation. Either way, you will learn how to extract valuable insights into what could happen in the future.
At the end of the session, you will understand how to enable simulation with both What If parameters and Power Apps within Power BI.
This session is ideal for users who have developed reports and are looking to take their reports to the next level. A basic understanding of DAX and Power Apps is helpful but not a requirement.
Get a Strategy with Your Power BI Licensing
Getting your Power BI licensing is critical to the success of your data culture. Most organizations look at licensing as a cost and often try to cut corners. While I am all about preserving the bottom line you could be destroying the data driven culture you are trying to foster. How do you make sure you are enabling your organization without blowing your budget?
Whether you are new to Power BI or actively using it, it is worth taking the time to evaluate your licensing. We will walk you through the key differences between licensing tiers and review the technical implications of your choices. We will also cover some of the key activities you can perform to keep your costs under control if you are leveraging Power BI Premium Capacity.
At the end of the session, you will be equipped with the knowledge to make the right licensing decisions and keep your costs under control.
This session is ideal for users who are unfamiliar with Power BI licensing, re-evaluating their current strategy to leverage premium features, or are considering expanding the number of developers in their organization.
Basics of connecting REST APIs to Power BI
Automated refreshes are critical to the success of many reporting solutions. Most developers prefer connecting to databases or data warehouses where they have control over the resource allocation and transformation of the data all before it reaches Power BI. But what happens when you do not have direct access to the database? What happens if the data is hosted by a 3rd party cloud platform? What if you ask for a way to get the data and they send you documentation on their APIs and say good luck?
If you have asked these questions, then this session is designed specifically for you. We will walk you through the basics of understanding API documentation and show you how to connect with the Web connector in Power BI. We will also cover some of the basic transformations you can perform to make your queries more efficient and highlight some of the blockers you might encounter. We will even build a function with an API and apply it to a dataset.
At the end of this session, you will feel comfortable using REST APIs as a data source and building connections using best practices.
Extending Power BI with Power Automate
Automation is designed to simplify how you perform tasks every day. You probably have noticed the Power Automate icon in the Power BI visualization pane, but probably struggle to understand how it works. Believe it or not, there are some use cases that would streamline processes and make the process of managing your data easier.
If you have ever wondered how you could integrate Power Automate with Power BI and Fabric, then this session is for you! We will walk through the basics of Power BI actions within Power Automate, how to integrate these actions within a Power BI report, and review use cases that help you extend automation to simplify your life.
At the end of this session, you will feel comfortable with integrating Power Automate into your Power BI reports. You will even learn about the only acceptable use case for exporting data into Excel from a Power BI report!
Manage Your Fabric Environment with Admin APIs
One of the biggest blockers to self-service business intelligence has been the ability to manage and report on the Microsoft Fabric and Power BI environment. There is a sustained fear that platform owners cannot manage or control their environment in a way where they feel comfortable. Paralyzed by this fear, organizations continue to lock down their environments and restrict access to data.
If this sounds like your organization, then this session is designed specifically for you! We will explore the administrator APIs available from Microsoft that help you manage both Fabric and Power BI objects. With a goal of simplification, you will learn how to view, control, and drive proactive actions by viewing data within your organization.
At the end of this session, you will be empowered to drive towards becoming a self-service business intelligence organization by managing your environment with these API endpoints.
Streamline Report Design for Maximum Flexibility
I think we can all agree – whenever you are designing solutions you can never seem to satisfy everyone. No matter what you do, the consumer always seems to want more than you designed. One group needs to see data by department while another wants it by business unit. It is absolutely frustrating and sometimes leads to a lot of rework and complexity in your report. But does it need to be that way?
If you feel this applies to you, then this session is designed specifically for you! We will explore options to make your Power BI reports as flexible as possible to streamline report design while allowing your reports to be reactive to all the demands of content consumers. The idea is to streamline the experience as much as possible while eliminating long term maintenance on your reports.
At the end of this session, you will understand the small adjustments you can make to a report to allow consumers to view the data you care about without needing to increase the complexity of your design.
