Dr. Ankur Bindal's career was built in medicine, as a physician trained and certified in both psychiatry and sleep medicine. In 2016 he founded KAB Medical Group, the San Diego and Los Angeles practice known as KMG Psychiatry, and he guided it as CEO and President through 2025. Under his leadership, the practice brought together traditional psychiatric care and brain stimulation therapies. Ankur Bindal is now President and Co-Founder of Aroga Group.

The heart of his clinical work was brain stimulation. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive treatment delivered on an outpatient basis; it applies magnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells in the brain, with the goal of improving symptoms of depression and other conditions. It's generally used for patients whose antidepressant medications haven't brought relief. The brain stimulation practice Dr. Bindal established at KMG Psychiatry reached high volume, and its patients included former NFL players, professionals, fellow physicians and people from around the world. He also extended access to TMS, a costly and innovative therapy, to underserved patients.

He was designated a Diamond Circle Provider, a distinction given to the highest-volume TMS practices. Health Conference 2.0 honored him in 2023 with two awards, the Outstanding Leadership Award and the Outstanding Corporation Award.

TMS was one part of a broader treatment approach. Throughout his time in practice, Dr. Ankur Bindal paired medication management and counseling with newer options, among them TMS and intranasal esketamine (Spravato). Blending the established with the innovative was, for him, a way to pursue the best possible outcomes for patients.

Sleep medicine formed the other major pillar of his expertise. He trained as a fellow in sleep medicine at the University of Michigan's Department of Neurology, and he earned board certification in the field. He was a co-founder, co-owner and Treasurer of Progressive Sleep Center, Inc. Yuma Regional Medical Center is where he served as Executive Medical Director, Adult Psychiatrist and Sleep Specialist. Among his research collaborations were projects examining how obstructive sleep apnea affects intracranial pressure, how CPAP is used in pregnant women with sleep-related breathing disorders, how early-life REM deprivation influences late-onset depression and hippocampal plasticity in rat models, and what role intermittent hypoxia plays in preventing myocardial infarction in dog models.

Government Medical College in Chandigarh, India, awarded him his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2003. At the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, he earned a Master of Public Health with majors in Clinical Research/Biostatistics and Social and Behavioral Sciences. His residencies were in Family Medicine at Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and in Adult Psychiatry at the University of Mississippi Medical Center's Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior. Ankur Bindal earned Diplomate certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and he was named both a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Beyond KMG Psychiatry, his clinical roles included Medical Director and Adult Psychiatrist at Aligned Integrated Medical Group, as well as Co-owner and Vice President of Pacific Health System. He sat on the Quality Monitoring Committees of both Community Health Group and Yuma Regional Medical Center and was part of the Vice-Chancellor's Residents Group of Fellows on Health, Engagement, Advocacy and Leadership.

Among his professional honors are the Ed Draper Award for Outstanding Senior Resident, the American Psychiatric Association Diversity Leadership Award, the Psychopharmacological Scholar's Award, and the National Institute of Mental Health/American Academy of Clinical Psychopharmacology Award. The Arizona Psychiatric Society also acknowledged him. He was a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the San Diego Psychiatric Association, and he spent two years on the American Psychiatric Association Member Council of Health Care Systems and Financing.

Dr. Bindal carried his clinical knowledge beyond the clinic as well, speaking and sitting on panels at multiple national and regional conferences. Writing as a Forbes Business Council contributor, he addressed how business leaders can manage seasonal depression, which sleep habits support a restful night, and how to sharpen mental clarity and focus over the course of a workday. Time featured him in a piece on the best advice from sleep doctors. He was also featured in a Fox 5 San Diego segment about local psychiatrists working to remove the stigma of anxiety and depression, and in the You Matter segment on CBS 8 that set mental health myths against effective treatments.

Nearly a decade into his leadership of KMG Psychiatry, Dr. Ankur Bindal made Aroga Group, the Southern California-based company he had co-founded in 2020, the full focus of his time. The companies he oversees there as President and Co-Founder work in residential and commercial real estate investing and holding, development, and management services. Workplace topics also appear in his Forbes Business Council bylines, which cover setting boundaries at work and clearing mental clutter.

From 2022 to 2025, he served on the board of the Department of Consumer Affairs Structural Pest Control Board. He was also a member of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce's Health Care Committee; the Chamber featured KAB Medical Group in a member spotlight. San Diego Business Journal named him to its 2025 list of the Top 50 Most Influential Health Care Leaders. San Diego Magazine featured him in Faces of San Diego 2023 and later named him one of its Top 50 People to Watch in 2026.

Ankur Bindal's philanthropic support has gone to local schools, military affiliates, the YMCA, the Red Cross and professional health organizations. When he isn't working, he likes spending time with his wife, daughter and dog.
