Dr. Barbara Short has broad experience as a teacher, counselor, social worker, principal, special education director and superintendent in diverse settings serving children, youth and families from birth through adulthood, preschool through university. Dr. Short’s research includes the effects of multigenerational trauma and resilience, and collaborative learning in a 21st century context. Dr. Short served on the 20-21 CA State SEL Team developing the Transformative Social-Emotional Learning Competencies and Conditions for Thriving for the CA Dept of Education, and was a lead author of Transformational SEL Conditions for Thriving. Barbara advocates for equity, is motivated by the transformational power of education and holds high standards for student outcomes with the whole student in mind. Dr. Short is committed to creating positive, powerful school environments that illuminate the brilliance of each student and provide them with the skills, opportunities and encouragement to shine.
