Jaime Alexander Caballero, M.D., FACC, FSCAI, is an interventional cardiologist based in Tampa, Florida, with clinical expertise in coronary interventions, structural heart disease, and endovascular therapies. He is the founder of Tampa Heart and Vascular Associates, an independent physician-led practice dedicated to advanced cardiovascular treatment and coordinated patient care. He also serves as Collaborative Assistant Professor of Cardiology at the University of South Florida and maintains clinical privileges at Tampa General Hospital.
Dr. Jaime Caballero was born and raised in Colombia, where he showed early academic strength in mathematics and science. In 1994, he became the National Champion in the Colombian Secondary School Mathematics and Physics Olympics in Bogotá. His academic interests later shifted toward medicine and human physiology. He enrolled at the University of Tolima School of Medicine and earned his Medical Doctor degree in 2006. During his clinical training, he was recognized as the Best Intern of the Year at Hospital Fundación Santafé de Bogotá.
Following graduation, he pursued additional training in emergency and trauma medicine in Colombia. His early postgraduate education included Advanced Trauma Life Support training at the University de La Salle in Bogota and specialized emergency airway management training at the University of Rosario. In 2009, he moved to the United States to continue his medical education and expand his experience in internal medicine and cardiovascular care.
He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Yale School of Medicine, Saint Raphael Campus, in New Haven, Connecticut. During his residency, he received several distinctions for academic performance and professionalism, including the Professionalism Award and the Reach Excellence Award. His work during this period strengthened his interest in cardiovascular disease and advanced procedural medicine.
Jaime Caballero, MD, continued his training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he completed fellowships in Cardiovascular Medicine and Interventional Cardiology. His fellowship training included experience with advanced catheter-based therapies, such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement and mechanical circulatory support systems. These programs provided extensive experience in complex coronary procedures and structural heart interventions.
In 2016, he began practicing interventional cardiology in Tampa, Florida, treating patients with complex coronary and structural heart conditions. In 2021, he became a founding physician of Tampa Heart and Vascular Associates. Through this independent practice, he works to expand access to advanced cardiovascular care while also contributing to physician education, clinical research, and collaboration within the field of interventional cardiology.
