Dünya Kırkalı is an engineering leader and software engineer whose journey spans building mobile apps, web services, data pipelines, and visualizations across diverse industries and teams. Along the way, this breadth of experience shaped him into a true generalist. This generalist perspective became his greatest asset when leading engineers from different disciplines, ultimately guiding him toward the field he truly fell in love with: engineering management. Left to his own devices, Dünya enjoys putting on a Joe Pass record and reflecting on ways to create tools and techniques to help engineering managers discover their own global maxima.

EM Metrics: Trigger, Inspire and Influence

Most of us have a background in Science/Engineering. We learn about the scientific method however we still rely on experience, gut feeling, etc.

This talk is about how we can use data to trigger, inspire and influence our own thinking as well as others'

Your organization as a Graph

What if you could see how your organization really works. Not just on paper, but in the messy, dynamic way information flows and teams interact?

In this talk, we’ll explore how visualizing your organization as a graph reveals the hidden structures that shape your products, your communication lines, and your culture. You’ll learn how to map teams, dependencies, and collaboration patterns, then use that map to explain phenomena like Conway’s Law, spot bottlenecks, and design better ways of working. Whether you’re a leader aiming to improve cross-team communication or an engineer curious about organizational dynamics, you’ll leave with practical techniques for turning invisible connections into actionable insights.
