Let's break some WCAG rules
Let's experience a web that's not made for you!
This talk is not a checklist of rules. It’s an interactive wake-up call.
15–25% of the population needs websites to accommodate different types of disabilities. Still, 94.8% of websites contain accessibility issues that make them harder to use.
It’s not because we don’t want to develop accessible websites and applications.
But we often lack knowledge and perspective. We build based on our own experience because that’s what we know. In this talk, you’ll get to experience how our applications work for someone with a screen reader, low vision, or limited motor control, and feel firsthand the challenges they face.
The talk combines knowledge, practice, and lived experience to raise your awareness of accessibility on the web and how small changes can make a huge difference.
You'll see the most common mistakes in action, who they affect, and how to fix them. So come experience the world through someone else's senses, and learn how to be a more accessible developer.
Cloud Technology + Accessibility = ❤️
Technology like CI/CD has now opened up possibilities to catch WCAG issues already during development, before the code has even made it to production and had the chance to exclude a large user group.
This can be achieved using tools such as scanners like Pa11y CI.
In this talk, we will cover:
- The importance of accessibility
- An overview of various tools that can be used when working with accessibility
- An introduction to Pa11y CI
- A live coding demonstration showing how Pa11y CI works and how cloud technology makes your applications accessible to everyone.
Ten Reasons Your Application Isn't Accessible and What You Can Do About It
The WCAG standard has been around for over 20 years, and it has been a legal requirement to build websites that meets the standards in universal design in Norway for several years already. However, new websites that fail to meet these requirements continue to emerge, unintentionally excluding people from the digital society.
In this lightning talks, you'll become aware of some typical reasons and learn what you can do to address them.
