Following previous careers as a BBC journalist and a senior civil servant leading the Cabinet Office's strategic communications team, Emma joined the Open Data Institute in 2012. Since then, she's become a specialist communicator, unravelling the complexities of data, AI and technology for a wide range of audiences across the world. Emma works at the intersection of communications, marketing and public affairs and manages several of the ODI strategic relationships. She works on thought leadership on behalf of the organisation's founders, Sir Tim Berners Lee and Sir Nigel Shadbolt, and acts as a spokeswoman for the organisation regularly. For nine years, Emma also ran a successful strategic communications agency, Allegory, that specialises in science, technology and data communications. She stepped down from her role as CEO of Allegory in 2021 to join the ODI's Executive Leadership team. Emma is the presenter of the Data Decade podcast.
