New NFT Solutions for Cultural Institutions

Many cultural institutions, museums, festivals, and foundations alike, are looking at NFT solutions for fundraising and digital merchandising. Some have partnered with tech companies to test the waters. Now, what's next for them? I'll introduce some new ideas for the arts and culture sector to benefit properly from NFTs.

Talk - Making the CryptoPunks Documentary

In 2017 I entered the Blockchain Digital Art space and very soon thereafter met Matt Hall and John Watkinson of LarvaLabs, who had recently created a little project called “CryptoPunks.”
I was immediately impressed with their project and many of the other early NFT projects being created at the time, and realized that this was an historic movement that would forever change the landscape of Art, Technology, Gaming, and Finance.
I decided at once to make a documentary about this and started shooting interviews with many of those early pioneer creators.
In March of 2018 I sat down with Matt and John and shot an extensive, 90 minute video interview with them about CryptoPunks.
To date, it is the only video-interview in existence with them and now serves as a unique historic record of their ground-breaking project. I have since interviewed many other creators and influencers in the space, including the Founder of ArtBlocks, Erick Caulderon ("SnowFro"), Artist and NYU Professor Kevin McCoy, who created "Quantum" the first-ever NFT - which sold at Sotheby's for $1.4 million, the Co-Founder of Dada.art Judy Mam, the Founder of "Unofficial Punks", Eric Rhodes, and many others.

The CrytptoPunks documentary is being produced as a full-length film tracing the history of the CryptoPunks project, from it's launch in June of 2017 all the way to the global explosion it experienced in 2021 which eventually led to the sale of CryptoPunks at both Christie's and Sotheby's Auction houses.

In my talk I will show clips from the documentary and describe the challenges of trying to make a film about NFTs back in 2017-18 when nobody in the world knew what NFTs were, and how things have changed since then. I can also discuss the business of creating NFTs as a way of raising funds for making the film and building a community around it.

Finally, as I have covered the space for 5 years and personally know many key figures in the space (including artist Kevin Abosch, and curator Fanny Lakoubay,) I can discuss how the NFT and Blockchain-Digital-Art space has changed in the past 5 years - especially in the realm of the Collectible PFP projects.
