Cloud Native Network Observability: Treating Routers like Kubernetes Resources

Observability has always been the heartbeat of stable networks, but for too long, we have relied on the slow, pull-based legacy of SNMP. As infrastructure grows more complex, we need more than just faster metrics—we need a fundamentally different, automated workflow.

In this talk, we explore the transition from passive polling to Cloud Native Network Observability. We will demonstrate how replacing SNMP with gNMI streaming telemetry allows us to move from lagging indicators to real-time awareness. But the true revolution lies in how we orchestrate it: by managing our network monitoring through a true GitOps pipeline.

By leveraging Infrahub as a Source of Truth alongside Kubernetes Operators and Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs), we can manage observability exactly like cloud applications. We will showcase a zero-touch workflow where adding a new device to Infrahub automatically pushes the declarative state to Kubernetes, dynamically updating the telemetry collection without human intervention.
