Windows installer: Wix - or how to have an easier deploy experience

How to deliver your project to the client? There are always more than one way: sending files in an archive, directly copy the files in the production or staging environments or letting the client do some documented steps by himself. Regardless of how you choose to deliver your code, in most cases, there is the risk of doing something wrong, either by using the wrong configuration or skipping steps or other reasons.
In order to stabilize the delivery of the project, we can also use the windows installer service (msiexec.exe) to offer our clients a more friendly, less technical, approach.

In this session, I will do an introduction on the subject and go through the basic actions that can be done with Wix, the tool that helps us tell Windows Installer what we want him to do, like deploying files, update configurations, setup windows services and other. All this will be done while presenting best practices learned on projects and showing tips and tricks for reducing the learning curve on this tool.
