Gant Laborde is a New Orleans native, born and raised. He grew up with hurricanes (not the drink), rich New Orleans culture, and as a free tour guide for all his out-of-state friends. Over the years he’s seen his city experience corruption, flooding, heartbreak, and most importantly, revived-determination. “New Orleans doesn’t know how to quit,” Gant says, “that’s why I love it.” Gant firmly believes conflict abets passion, a fire always moves fastest uphill.

As CIO for the popular company Infinite Red, Gant works remotely from his home and uses his self-managed autonomy to explore a variety of leadership arts. Besides managing the all-remote team from around the world, Gant has become a published author, adjunct professor, volunteer mentor, and a speaker at conferences worldwide.

Each day, Gant refines what motivation and leadership mean as he strives to bridge the gap the theory and the concrete. He voraciously consumes self-help books and online lectures, which he incorporates into his everyday processes. Focus on personal enthusiasm and motivation to lead projects, workshops, and teams are the bedrock of success. He refines these skills as often as possible at his local Toastmasters clubs, where he serves as Division Director.

Influence - Witchcraft and Wizardry

What can you do better today to make people care about what you have to say? I know the answer, and I don’t want to keep it to myself.

A skilled leader can take anyone from the audience saunter around the room with them, making the pair of them look practiced. The trick? An excellent lead benefits all. When you increase your influence, you don’t just make your own life easier, you make those who listen to you feel at ease. Your wisdom can properly aid your team, and your message can ring loud.

I’ve broken influence into some Harry Potter themed blocks. I’ll teach you things like * Charms- simple phrases that increase influence * Potions- the critical elements for a strong effect * Divination- making the right outcome foreseeable * and more.

I’ll use real-world examples and results to keep our magic tethered to scientific and reproducible results. With only an hour of training on influence, you’ll find a newfound power behind your words.

The magic is real.

AI in React.js

Want to see how easy it is to build an AI website with React? Let's create a few websites live! You'll understand the basics of AI, and more importantly you'll see how easy it is to come up with new ideas that have never been done before, and build them. This talk is the comic book transformation from React developer to superhero.

No expertise are required to attend this talk. Just show up knowing React and I'll do the rest. You'll better understand the way AI integrates with UI as well as how easy it will be in the near future! You'll start to see AI advantages in everyday products before anyone else.

Adventures in ML and JavaScript

AI/ML has revolutionized the world of what is possible, and TensorFlow.js is revolutionizing the domain of where we can bring these new capabilities. Google implemented over 4,000 tensor models in production in 2017. The future of software will be filled with amazing new Machine Learning, so let's get creating!

Complex Problems... and other ways to disappoint your friends.

Most developers have heard of "Big O notation" but it stops there. One step further is a cliff. If you don't know it's there, welp, it was nice knowing ya. *Pirate accent* THAR BE SEA DRAGONS *end dramatic accent*

It's hard to make computer science interesting, or even relevant, but in this talk I focus on the key aspects that you can't ignore. It's important to know when you stumble across an NP-Complete problem, and what you can do. I promise short journey into the jungle of PSPACE for developers who have never even heard these terms.

This is a beginner and expert friendly talk.

Enter the Matrix

There are countless practical applications of 3D transforms. Too often 3D is a buzzword for a large, flashy framework, and not a simpler way to present information. Behind complex linear algebra is simple intuition that you already have and can use. In this presentation, I will review the ideas of matrix transforms without the headache. Everyone, from academic to beginner will have a clearer understanding of the world, both virtual and real.

In this talk we review the tiny bits of math that masquerade as magic with code examples and demonstrations.

This session draws on code from C to CSS to make a compelling story.

A Short History of Cryptography for Programmers

Let's take the "Crypto Bro" term and throw it in the shredder. Cryptography is cool, useful, and a big part of programming jobs. Cryptography has a long and fascinating history that spans thousands of years. It has been used to protect sensitive information, ensure the authenticity of messages, and facilitate secure communication. In this conference talk, we will explore the history of cryptography from its early beginnings with the Caesar cipher to modern techniques such as public key cryptography and JWT (JSON Web Token).

Build an AI App in Expo

People are starting to ask about AI and want to offer AI services for their mobile apps, but how? I've been implementing AI in mobile since 2018, and I can tell you it's only getting easier. Let's explore the possibilities for AI in Expo. I'll show you the services, options, and future of "AI on device" with Expo!

We'll dive deep into practical applications that bring AI capabilities to life within the Expo framework. I'll guide you through enhancing your mobile applications with innovative AI features. You'll leave with a solid understanding of the tools and techniques available. This is a unique opportunity to see how AI can transform user experiences in mobile apps, making them more interactive, personalized, and intelligent.

Furthermore, I'll share insights into the challenges and triumphs of integrating AI into React Native projects, drawing on real-world examples and my personal experiences. We'll explore the future of AI in mobile development, including emerging trends and how you can stay ahead of the curve. You'll gain a comprehensive understanding of current AI capabilities within Expo and learn how to future-proof your mobile app projects.

Let's push the boundaries of what's possible in mobile app development.

This session is meant for all audiences of React Native developers. No prior AI experience will be required, but the talk will still be useful for the most experienced React Native and AI developers, as well.
