Meet Gareth Hay - Your Expert in Control Room Innovation. With over 30 years of navigating the complex world of audiovisual, Gareth has helped shape control rooms that power the world—quite literally (half the world’s electricity transmission, to be exact).

Hailing from the UK, Gareth brings a sharp wit, a no-nonsense attitude, and perhaps a cuppa to every challenge he faces. When not tackling the intricacies of control room workflows, you might find him geeking out over AI trends or contemplating how donuts might be the secret to job satisfaction.

Secure By Default: how it will change the cyber security environment.

"Secure by Design" and “Secure by Default” embody the principle of designing systems and software to be inherently secure from the outset, minimising the need for additional security measures. It prioritises built-in safeguards, authentication protocols, and encryption by default, reducing vulnerabilities and enhancing overall resilience against potential threats. The Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency, along with nine other agencies released a whitepaper highlighting how manufacturers need to change.

This change in approach should kill the need for a "Hardening guide" and replaces it with a “Loosening guide”. This brings enormous benefits but also challenges for end users and integrators.

Developers naturally focus on the Secure by Design aspect as it affects how they work the most but that is not how to pitch it internally and externally.

Prevention is only the first step to resilient systems

The difference between Mean Time Between Failures and Mean Time To Resolve, why should you care?

Newark airport showed us how seconds matter when getting back up and running. A 90 second outage has an estimated cost of over $7.5 million, or $83,000 a second. How quickly can your system get back to managing the mission?

How can you cope with the known unknowns and unknown unknowns? How can you build resilience into your systems and processes?

Resilience needs to be designed across all the various domains:
Physical, Technical, Cyber, Personal, and Processes.

Control Room Operator turnover impact, and strategies for retention.

Based upon the results of two global surveys, the most recent speaking with two thousand control room personnel and leaders. We will be discussing subjects from increasing operator satisfaction to the statistical link between cloud technologies and highly efficient control rooms.

Attendees will be able to compare their organization to others globally on retention rates and efficiency.

Using the information shared in the session, attendees should have enough data to hopefully change their retention rates.

By the end of the session, attendees will be able to articulate the benefits that adopting cloud technologies can have for their organization.
