The Leftovers - How to approach common functions when shifting to product-aligned teams
What to do with the capabilities that everybody needs but nobody wants to own.
In this talk, I explain how the Card Portfolio team at Discover Financial Services adopted an agile way of working that established a temporary group, The Leftovers, to define functional ownership for capabilities that teams relied on, but no one wanted to own. In the first six months, we addressed operational excellence gaps with 25% of the capabilities and freed up capacity for reinvestment.
