Gurkirat Singh Sekhon is a fourth-year PhD Candidate in English and Women’s and Gender Studies at University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. His research interests lie in transnational feminisms, queer and woman of color critique, and postcolonial theory as his prospective dissertation seeks to trace and rethink the concept of “honor” and its relationship to Sikh notions of “izzat” by following its articulation across anthropological, legal, historical, and literary archives. Gurkirat is a career-changer, having earned a BS in Spanish Literature and World Languages/ESL Education, an MA in Literature and Cultural Theory, and an MS in Secondary English Education from University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. An unserious practitioner of the queer art of failure, he views his unorthodox career trajectory as an articulation of his simultaneous investments in feminist theory and critical pedagogy.
