Hybrid Learning Environment for Interdisciplinary Education

With the effect of the Covid19 Pandemic, learning environments were transformed from physical spaces to digital spaces in every level of education system, especially at universities. Even though there are some pros and cons of both options, we don't need to choose just one. We believe that by combining their effective aspects, a hybrid model for teaching and learning activities can boost the creativity and efficiency of our education system in the future. Moreover, digital spaces have become more convenient for interdisciplinary work due to their advantages such as independence from time and space, easy access to all kinds of information and easy network for communities. Online courses which include anywhere and anytime learning have increased student interaction, acquired skills in using technology, and made instructors more approachable. Moreover, interdisciplinary interaction and collaboration is getting easier through the pros of digital rather than physical spaces. So, how does their combination as hybrid learning environments contribute to this interdisciplinarity? Therefore, this workshop was designed to answer the question of "How does a hybrid learning environment transform interdisciplinary education?". Within the frame of this workshop, we aim to implement a Design Thinking approach with a particular focus on interdisciplinary teamwork for the participants to solve this challenge. As being one of the main mindsets for interdisciplinary studies, the Design Thinking approach was selected as the workshop method. In this workshop, participants will produce project ideas on the above-defined challenge in interdisciplinary teams from problem definition to the solution with the support of the Design Thinking approach introduced by the facilitators. In the workshop, diverse creative and innovative methods and techniques will be used throughout the Design Thinking process.
