Mrs. Heather Bushelman has been in education for 21 years. After graduating from Morehead State University, she started as an elementary teacher in Warren County. Her passion for whole child education and meeting students’ needs both academically and social-emotionally led her to complete a master’s degree in elementary counseling and Rank 1 in secondary counseling from Western Kentucky University. For the past 16 years, she has helped create and sustain three comprehensive counseling programs within Warren and Boone Counties. Part of her role as a counselor also included being the PBIS coach for tiers 1, 2, and 3, SEL Coordinator, Leader In Me trainer, and leadership roles within the district professional learning communities. Heather is a member and president-elect of the Kentucky School Counseling Association board. She is currently the 2022 Kentucky School Counselor of the Year. Heather has been honored to provide trainings for counselors and educators all over the United States including Nevada, California, Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, and Kentucky. Topics have focused on SEL implementation and best practices within the MTSS model, trauma-informed strategies, and the many different aspects of creating a comprehensive counseling program. Serving now as the Program Coordinator for Comprehensive School Counseling at the Kentucky Department of Education she is passionate to continue her advocacy and support for school counselors around Kentucky!
