Hendrik Schalekamp

Software Gardener and Tech Team Developer at Sudo

I am a trained mathematician who has spent most of my professional career in engineering environments designing and developing software. I have been privileged to have been a team member on the development of two of the most exciting blue sky engineering projects in South Africa over the last two decades - the Southern African Large Telescope (server software lead); and chief software engineer on the Joule Electric Vehicle. I love technology, I love building products, but I'm most passionate about helping teams building tech products that make a difference.

I have been the CTO of Polymorph Systems, a mobile development company; and the VP of Solutions Delivery at JourneyApps, an enterprise custom app development platform and service.

I am now a freelance software developer helping companies in various sectors, including hospitality and energy management, to migrate and implement new platforms on GCP. I primarily develop nano-service based serverless Node backends for my clients, but also help them implement Angular frontends on top of these architectures. I extensively use Typescript, GraphQL and Apollo and am very familiar with GCP's serverless compute, storage and database technologies; as well as data pipelining (Dataflow) and BigQuery.
