Hila Hanif is a Principal for Cybersecurity and Data Protection Public Policy at Amazon Web Services (AWS). She leads a variety of security policy issues for AWS, focused primarily on software supply chain security, open-source software security, cloud security and resilience, cybersecurity regulatory harmonization and workforce development. Prior to joining AWS, she served in various positions in the U.S. Department of Defense, including Director for Cyber Strategy, Defense and Capabilities, Director for Afghanistan Strategy and Policy, Director for Cooperative Threat Reduction Policy and Special Assistant to the Secretary of Defense. Prior to her government service, she worked in the international development field on various ICT for Development projects in Africa and the Middle East. She holds a B.A. in Economics from Georgetown University and M.A. in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School at Tufts University. She lives in Virginia with her husband, daughter and beagle.
