Deposit-platform architecture patterns

Most fintech engineering writing is about payments or lending. Deposits get less attention, which is odd, because a savings-and-deposit platform has a harder correctness problem than either. You are moving other people's money between regulated institutions, and you have to be right every time, reconcilable after the fact, and defensible to a regulator.

I designed one. Here are five patterns that held up. None are novel on their own. The value was in choosing them together, early, and refusing to compromise on the correctness ones under delivery pressure.

Skills as a cross-functional operating model

Most writing about AI "skills" is engineering writing. Reusable prompts, agent tools, coding patterns. Useful, but it stops at the engineering boundary. The more interesting thing happened when ours crossed it.

We built a shared catalogue of reusable skills. Each one encodes a decision made once, so it never has to be made again. Engineers built them, agents used them, demand grew for more. That much was expected. Then risk, compliance, and content teams started contributing.

AI Adoption - Measure the middle, not the frontier

When a company rolls out AI tooling, the metric everyone reaches for is how much more the best people can now do. It is the wrong metric. Your vanguard was always going to run. They would have found the tools without you. Measuring them tells you how fast your fastest can go, which is a number that flatters you and predicts nothing.

The metric that matters is whether your cautious middle is moving.
