Ivo Emanuilov is an interdisciplinary researcher and IP legal expert. He is currently writing a doctoral thesis on the overlapping of the eligibility, obviousness and enablement doctrines in the assessment of patentability of algorithmic inventions in the UK, Europe and the US. He is interested in problems of intellectual property law that can be solved with the tools of mathematical reasoning. His research and teaching interests cover also software engineering, artificial intelligence and mathematical structures in computer science.
Ivo has a first class honours degree in law from the University of Sofia and an LLM Intellectual Property Law (with distinction) from the University of Leuven. He also studied English Law and EU Law at the University of Cambridge. Ivo has an academic background in computer science and systems programming from the Technical University of Sofia. He is currently pursuing a BSc (Hons) Computer Science at the University of London.
Ivo has more than a decade of experience as a legal counsel on technology and intellectual property law matters. He has advised clients in the telecommunications, media and technology sector on intellectual property licensing, open source, patentability of computer-implemented inventions and data protection law. He is also a visiting lecturer in intellectual property law and interdisciplinary aspects of AI at the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Sofia.
