With over 8 years of experience in IT, Ilya has worked extensively with Java/Kotlin, Spring Framework, and Ktor — currently focusing on Android development.
He has hands-on experience implementing SSO with Keycloak, migrating enterprise systems from proprietary to open-source solutions, and integrating complex services in banking and e-commerce.
He's particularly interested in developing lightweight, privacy-conscious SaaS products for the European market, with a strong focus on digital sovereignty.

Fun fact:
Before entering IT, Ilya worked as an automation engineer in heavy industry — surrounded by sensors, relays, and PLCs. Eventually he discovered that programming people’s systems is way more exciting than programming industrial ones.

Integrating Keycloak with External Email Services: Beyond FreeMarker Templates

Keycloak provides built-in email templates based on FreeMarker and a simple SMTP configuration, which works fine for small deployments.
However, in enterprise environments where email templates are centrally managed through a dedicated CMS or marketing system, maintaining separate FreeMarker templates quickly becomes unmanageable.
In this session, we’ll explore architectural approaches to integrating Keycloak with external email services — from SMTP relays to custom SPI extensions and event-driven designs — enabling a unified, brand-consistent email experience without duplicating templates.
