Isaias Thomas Biju is a Year 4 Computer Science student at Heriot-Watt University Dubai, with interests spanning technology, research, student leadership, and community building. He is an AWS Student Builder Group Leader, establishing the first AWS Student Builder Group at Heriot-Watt University, where he is working to create an accessible community for students to learn, build, collaborate, and develop practical cloud skills together. He is also the Founder and Chair of the BCS Student Chapter at Heriot-Watt University Dubai—the first across Heriot-Watt University’s global campuses—through which he has helped build a professional bridge between students, academia, and industry through workshops, technical sessions, and collaborative events. Academically, Isaias has maintained a consistent record of top grades and is a three-time recipient of the Deputy Principal’s Award as well as the ICL Prize for the best-performing first-year student in his Computer Science degree. His work extends into research and technical communication, including undergraduate research in Human-Computer Interaction through the MACS Athena SWAN Undergraduate Bursary Scheme and work exploring accessibility in video game systems. Beyond university, he has spoken at TEDx University of Birmingham Dubai on the intersection of robotics and human intelligence and was selected as the only student speaker at the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival 2026, where he delivered a workshop on using geolocation data for business decision-making with QGIS. Across these experiences, Isaias is particularly passionate about making technical ideas approachable, creating spaces where students can learn from one another, and encouraging students to step into unfamiliar areas of technology without feeling that they must first be experts.
