James Gary Sheets has developed a health care leadership career spanning nearly three decades, working across hospital administration, regional operations, virtual care, and broader service delivery. He has consistently emphasized clear priorities, teamwork, and practical execution while keeping patients and caregivers central to operational decisions. In his most recent regional president role, he oversaw eight hospitals and roughly 150 clinics throughout Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana, covering about 12,000 team members and 1,000 physicians and advanced practice providers.

James Sheets's executive responsibilities included strategy, growth, financial performance, quality, safety, and patient and caregiver experience. He shaped regional efforts around three fundamentals: safety and quality, engaged caregivers, and stewardship. A multi-year operational improvement plan achieved financial gains in its first year while patient satisfaction remained steady. The region also strengthened its quality and safety scores and introduced its health plan into Colorado through a partnership with a leading local system.

Across eighteen years of combined service with the same health system, he progressed through several major leadership positions. As a chief operating officer, he supervised acute operations for 21 hospitals in Utah and Idaho, plus surgery centers, telehealth, air ambulance, and outreach services. The region exceeded financial targets and reached the top tier of national quality rankings. His work included establishing an ambulatory surgery center division, opening a community hospital, developing a long-term facility modernization plan, and integrating an acquired air medical company into an existing flight operation.

Jim Sheets previously directed telehealth and outreach services across eight states, rebuilding virtual care and bringing it together in one modern hub. During the pandemic, his team scaled video visits by a factor of a thousand and expanded programs involving behavioral health, remote monitoring, oncology, and other areas. He also served as a hospital CEO and Administrator and later managed ten hospitals as a Group President.

James Gary Sheets holds two master's degrees and a bachelor's degree in business management, earned cum laude. He taught future health care executives for nearly a decade, served on numerous boards, raised millions of dollars for health care causes, and volunteered in community programs. He and his wife, a kindergarten teacher, raised five children, and he enjoys golfing, skiing, reading, backpacking, and college football.
