Wilderness Education & Medicine of Texas is the sum of many years of professional and personal experience in outdoor programming and experiential education. Jan Hackett owner/director brings a wealth of experience in teaching, risk management, outdoor leadership and “wilderness” skills from his fourteen years running his current company along with time spent at Duke University as the Director of Outdoor Programs. As a member of the faculty he provided instruction for outdoor recreation/leisure classes in fly-fishing, kayaking, mountain biking, climbing, wilderness skills, outdoor leadership and wilderness first aid. Growing up in central Pennsylvania Jan became an avid outdoorsman where he enjoyed fly fishing, backpacking, and canoeing. If you can’t find him teaching about the wilderness then he is off enjoying it his most recent adventures have had him hiking the Wonderland trail, backpacking the Napoli coast of Kauai, mountaineering in Peru, fly fishing in North and Central America and much more
