Jannis is a first-year PhD. student jointly between the Computational Systems Biology group at IBM Research in Zurich and the Machine Learning for Computational Biology group at ETH Zurich. His main Ph.D. topic intersects systems biology and drug discovery using deep learning methods. His current research also involves explainable medical image analysis of ultrasound.

He received a BSc. in Cognitive Science and a MSc. in Neural Systems and Computation (both with highest distinction). In 2019, he was awarded the FXH Scientific Excellence Award from Roche, a scientific excellence award about the future of healthcare. He received several scholarships, is an iOS developer and co-founded a summer school in computational neuroscience.
