Jayasree Natarajan is a Senior Principal Engineer and Director of Site Reliability Engineering, with over 19 years of global experience, including more than 13 years in the United States and over 6 years in India, building and operating distributed, highly scalable systems across on-premises and cloud environments. She brings deep expertise in Microsoft Azure–based platforms, Kubernetes, and modern DevOps and SRE practices, alongside strong leadership in strategy, stakeholder management, and team mentorship.
Currently at UnitedHealth Group (UHG), Jayasree leads a global SRE organization responsible for reliability across mission-critical platforms. In this role, she has defined and implemented reliability governance practices, including SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets, while championing observability, automation, chaos engineering, and infrastructure-as-code.
Previously at Optum, Jayasree served as Principal Engineer, where she owned platform strategy, multi-year engineering roadmaps, FinOps management, and cost optimization initiatives. In this capacity, she helped improve platform reliability outcomes, including improving system uptime by 30% and reducing incident MTTR by 50%. Her work delivered a significant financial impact, including $2.28 million in annual cloud savings through event-driven autoscaling and $3.8 million in savings through Azure modernization and AKS standardization. She also provided financial oversight for platforms with budgets of approximately $52M, while driving zero-downtime releases, disaster recovery patterns, and high-availability architectures.
Earlier in her career, Jayasree held senior engineering and middleware leadership roles at Optum, Target Corporation, General Reinsurance, and General Electric. She specialized in middleware platforms such as WebSphere, JBoss, WebLogic, and Tomcat; infrastructure automation with Chef and Terraform; and large-scale production support across Linux, AIX, and UNIX systems. Across these roles, she consistently led complex migrations, performance tuning, automation initiatives, and cross-functional global teams.
Jayasree holds a Master of Computer Applications from Osmania University and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Padmavathi University. She also holds multiple middleware administration certifications from IBM and Red Hat, and was previously certified as a Microsoft Azure Architect.
