At AMIS - Conclusion, I work in the field of cloud and Internet of Things (IoT) where I try to accomplish innovative solutions for the manufacturing and transportation markets. The solutions I work on are often build using Microsoft technologies like Azure IoT platform and the Azure IoT Edge.

With more than 15 years of experience in web development (I earned my dinosaur badge with pride) it was 2014 that I was in the need for something new. Via a short route in mobile app development I added ‘Internet of Things’ to my interest and field of work. And I love it till today.

I like to share my knowledge with others. That is why I am a public speaker at Atos and several user groups (Azure IoT Community, SDN and dotNed) and events (Experts Live, Codecamp Romania, Future Tech, Microsoft TechDays, IoT Tech Days and Dev Nation) in the Netherlands and abroad.

I also share feedback as an active Windows Insider and a member of the Azure Advisory Board.

Combine Azure, IoT & Edge; Azure IoT Edge

What if you bring the power of cloud technologies from Azure to the edge to do IoT? You get Azure IoT Edge. This session will give an introduction into Azure IoT Edge. What it is, why you want to use it, how to set it up and how to deploy your code to it.

1. Introduction to edge computing in IoT, use cases, overall architecture and used hardware (BoM) (slides)
2. Setting up the cloud side (slides / demo)
3. Setting up edge computer (slides / demo)
4. Coding modules in Visual Studio Code (slides / demo)
5. Deploying your modules (slides / demo)
6. deploying third party modules (demo)
6. Same on a Raspberry or industrial hardware (demo)
7. Wrap up & take-aways to start at home (slides)
8. Q & A

The breakoutsession will cover the following products: Azure IoT Hub, Azure IoT Edge, Azure Container Registries, Visual Studio Code, Azure DevOps, Docker, Azure Stream Analytics, Azure Functions, Azure Blob Storage and Power BI.

Development environment hosted on Windows 10 Professional, Edge computer operating system; Ubuntu Linux.

Using a demo setup which can be run on home available hardware (simple sensors, Arduino, Raspberry Pi) and also the hardware used in industries (industrial sensors, industrial I/O modules and industrial PC)

Workshop: Getting started with remote monitoring using Azure IoT Central

Internet of Things (IoT) is a hot topic. You can find more and more solutions within industries and more and more tools and tutorials to help you to set up IoT solutions. But nothing beats the ease of Software as a Service.

IoT Central is the IoT SaaS Platform from Microsoft running in Azure. It allows you to easily connect your devices to the cloud and monitor them remotely. It's a powerful platform that is cheap and easy to learn.

In this workshop you learn how set up a device and connect it to your IoT solution for remote monitoring in just a couple of hours.

Just bring your laptop, we bring the rest.

Workshop: Connect an industrial grade IoT device using Azure IoT Edge

Do you want to introduce IoT in your company but your devices cannot reach the internet? Or you want to limit the amount of IoT data sent to the cloud? Or you want a local feedback loop?

Azure IoT Edge makes this possible by solving these issues together with Machine Learning, Cognitive services, Stream Analytics, Azure Functions and more. It just runs on-premise and is configurable in the cloud using zero-touch deployment and configuration.

In this workshop, you will learn how to set up a local Azure IoT Edge device and get telemetry from an actual Industry grade Modbus device.

You will also learn how to easily configure and deploy modules from the cloud to your laptop. The workshop bonus chapters even show how to program your own logic and deploy it to the IoT Edge. This workshop will then result in building a local feedback loop.

After this workshop, you are able to start introducing Azure IoT Edge in your own IoT projects.

Azure Custom Vision on Azure IoT Edge; plain & simple

IoT, AI and edge computing bring a huge potentials for businesses. But how to do it. This session will show how simple it is to build a classification model based on Azure Custom Vision and to deply it to Azure IoT Edge.

Using Lego Star Wars minifigures as object to be classified and a Raspberry Pi as Edge device the session will cover the steps to take to get the minfigures identified via a webcam attached to the Raspberry Pi.

The goal of the session is to address that creating models and deploying them into a solution can be done to a certain level by developers without the help of data scientists or machine learning experts.

Technologies covered in the session:
- Azure Custom Vision
- Azure IoT Edge
- Azure Container Registry
- Azure IoT Hub
- OpenCV
-Visual Studio Code (+ needed extensions)

If time allows it, deploying the same solution to industrial hardware can be shown.
