His work is distinguished by a consistent dedication to uncovering the truth, delivering exclusive reports, and focusing on public interest journalism professionally and clearly.

He has covered historic and tragic events that have shaped national dialogue. Jeffrey Derderian was one of the first television reporters from New England on the scene after the 9/11 attacks, spending three weeks in New York City documenting the aftermath. He also reported on the Columbine School Shooting, one of the earliest mass school shootings in the United States, and covered the return of a renowned astronaut to space. His reporting gave audiences detailed and accurate information under pressure in each case.

His journalism has also been featured on national broadcasts. Derderian appeared on the Today Show for storm coverage and reported for CNN. He is respected among colleagues and viewers alike for his ability to cover sensitive issues with fairness and factual integrity.

Jeff is a freelance investigative reporter for WTNH-TV in New Haven, Connecticut, focusing on impactful stories for the Hartford market. One of his recent reports, “How Technology Is Changing How Emergency Responders React,” earned an Emmy nomination. The story examined a real-time video system created by three former Yale students, allowing municipalities to improve emergency response through live communication. Although still in the early stages of use in Connecticut, the system is available nationwide and presents opportunities to modernize 9-1-1 services.

Derderian's reporting has contributed to policy changes. A piece he produced about the murder of a visiting nurse led to new legislation aimed at improving safety for home healthcare workers in Connecticut. Through careful investigation, fact-checking, and ethical judgment, he continues to pursue stories that drive public awareness and accountability.

Jeff also contributes to WTNH-TV’s digital and broadcast platforms, working with the editorial team to develop exclusive stories. His recent coverage includes a mayor's public apology and an exclusive report on a criminal case that gained national attention. Before this, he worked for News 12 Connecticut in Norwalk, focusing on long-form and investigative reporting.

Earlier in his career, Derderian spent over six years at WHDH-TV in Boston as a reporter and weekend anchor. He was among the first reporters from the region to broadcast live from New York following the 9/11 attacks. Before that, he worked at WLNE-TV in Providence, where he led the investigative series “You Paid for It,” exposing government waste and political misconduct. He also anchored weekend newscasts and filled in on weekday broadcasts.

Derderian also hosted a live news and interview show on radio in Boston, expanding his experience in different forms of media. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Rhode Island College in Providence.

Jeff Derderian is also actively involved in charitable work. He has donated to a Connecticut-based domestic violence initiative and organizations such as the Salvation Army, Big Sisters, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, the Food Bank, and the Tomorrow Fund, which supports children undergoing cancer treatment and their families. In his personal life, he enjoys running, staying fit, and spending time with his dogs. Jeff continues to approach journalism with integrity, focus, and a commitment to sharing stories that matter.
