Jelena joined Thomson Reuters, one of the world’s most trusted content providers, in March 2022 as their first Distinguished Engineer.
Detail-oriented engineering professional and strategic technologist with 20+ years of experience, Jelena created and launched the Distinguished Engineer program for Thomson Reuters in early May of 2022.
Before joining Thomson Reuters, Jelena was a Distinguished Engineer with UBS, Switzerland’s largest global universal bank. There she spent 15 years in a variety of roles, largely in creative, service-oriented roles specialising in client experience, applied innovation and strategic topics. Those roles allowed her to combine her technical, organisational and people skills and brought her into the technologist she is today. In addition to UBS, Jelena’s professional experience also includes roles with Siemens and other tech firms in Switzerland.
Jelena is passionate about the world of technology, enabling young minds and women’s empowerment, regardless of industry.

Strengthening the Engineering Culture / the Distinguished Engineer program
I joined Thomson Reuters in March 2022 as their first Distinguished Engineer (DE). This gave me an opportunity to define my role and create a Distinguished Engineer program. The program was launched in May 2022.
In my talk, I will share the details about the program, the core concept and my experience creating and launching it.
At its core, the program is focused on strengthening the engineering culture. Therefore I will also touch upon the importance of a strong engineering culture in the corporate setup.
