Beyond your Security Stack: How Strong Cyber Ecosystems Get Built
Abstract/Summary: We spend a lot of time in cyber talking about the security stack: the tools, platforms, controls, frameworks, and whatever tech promises safety. Some of the strongest security outcomes happen outside of the stack. They happen when the right people know each other, trust each other, share their knowledge, and know who to call when it matters most!
This talk explores how cyber ecosystems can be intentionally built, not just filled with events, logos and activity. Drawing on lessons from building and convening a cyber community in Northern VA, I’ll break down what makes an ecosystem work. From the right people in the room, trusted relationships, opportunities to collaborate, ideas and talent pathways, and the infrastructure to support it all.
Attendees will leave with a practical way to look at their own ecosystem, both for their communities and for them as individuals, identify what’s missing and build stronger, higher value connections.
Because the strongest cyber ecosystem isn’t the one with the most logos in the room. It’s the one where people know how to help and how to turn connection into action!
Main Takeaways:
- Understand difference between a group of cyber orgs and a functioning cyber ecosystem.
- Learn how to map key people, organizations, mission connections and gaps.
- See why trust, repeated interactions, and strong community connections are part of security infrastructure.
- Learn how to build connections that lead to real outcomes, not just more networking.
- Leave with a framework to strengthen ecosystem around a team, community, meetup or region.
