Jiyon Byun is a PhD candidate in English at the University of California, Irvine. Her dissertation examines Korean American and Korean crime fiction in the post-9/11 era, arguing that the investigative structure of the genre illuminates how imperial power operates in varied forms across the Pacific. Her work draws on frameworks of minor transnationalism, Global Asias, and decolonial thought, engaging questions of war, empire, race, and gender.
