Joakim Eriksson is Unit Manager of the Connected Intelligence research unit at the Computer Science department of RISE Research Institutes of Sweden. He holds a PhD in Internet of Things and has worked for more than two decades at the intersection of IoT, AI, and networking.

At RISE, Joakim leads research on connected and intelligent systems, spanning IoT, edge AI, cyber-physical systems, and future networks (5G/6G and beyond). He has been deeply involved in developing open-source platforms such as Contiki-NG and in creating tools that bridge embedded systems, AI, and real-world applications.

Joakim has a passion for making research tangible and fun—most recently by working together with colleagues to build the Candytron 4000, a robotic arm powered by AI that distributes candy while showcasing the potential (and quirks) of physical AI agents.
