Johnny Austin is a fractional CTO and founder of Recursive Funk, helping growth-stage companies build AI-powered platforms that generate measurable business impact.

He's currently leading agentic AI delivery for eBay and serving as fractional CTO for Spill, a next-generation social media platform. Recent work includes improving LLM accuracy from 78% to 95% while quadrupling release velocity at Upwell, and leading product and engineering teams that generated $19M in revenue at Best Egg.

As CTO at Till (acquired by Best Egg), Johnny scaled the platform to 6 million rental units with 97% team retention through acquisition. He's also led engineering organizations at Mapbox (5x ARR growth), Capital One, and Lockheed Martin.

He speaks internationally on AI transformation, platform engineering, and building technology organizations that drive revenue. He hosts the Executive Runtime podcast and serves on the Tuskegee University CS Industry Alumni Board.
