John Nyamweya is a software developer and builder driven by curiosity about how technology works, and, more importantly, why it works the way it does. Whether he is exploring a new technology, breaking down a complex problem, or building a product, he enjoys asking “why?” just as much as “how?”

That curiosity shapes the way he builds. John enjoys taking ideas apart, understanding the problem beneath them, and putting them back together as software that is simpler, more thoughtful, and built to last. He focuses on Android and modern application development and serves as the Android Lead at GDG MMUST, where he helps other developers learn, experiment, and build with technology. He is also a Futurize Student Ambassador and part of the team behind Ryvo, a software company building modern digital products and intelligent systems.

John believes that building great software is about more than writing code. It is about understanding people, questioning assumptions, solving real problems, and having the patience to keep learning when things don't work the first time. Every project is an opportunity to improve, every challenge changes the way he thinks, and every conversation is an opportunity to see a problem from a different perspective.

For John, every project is an opportunity to build something worth putting his name on. His philosophy is simple:

Not talented. Just curious. Curious enough to become talented.

Prompt. Compose. Ship. : Building AI-Powered Android Apps with Gemini

What happens when you stop treating AI as a feature and start building it into the experience?

In this interactive session, we’ll build an AI-powered Android application from the ground up using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and Gemini. Rather than stopping at a simple model prompt, we’ll explore how AI fits into a real Android application, from designing the Compose UI and handling user input to connecting Gemini, managing asynchronous states, handling failures, and turning model responses into useful experiences.

Your Android app can do more than respond to taps. By the end of the session, you’ll have a working AI-powered Android app and a practical understanding of how to take Gemini from a prompt to something you can actually ship. This isn’t a talk about what AI could do—we’re building it. The session is designed for Android developers with a foundation in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose who are ready to move beyond traditional app experiences and start building with AI.
