Getting started with Satellite IoT
Do your IoT devices need to reach beyond where mobile phone or LoRa can reach? Do you have small, intermittent data payloads? Satellite communications could be the solution for you! In this presentation, I will walk through my experience integrating with a micro-sat constellation and how to process data using Azure.
Creating an AI assistant to help run meetups
In this session, I will explain how I created a cheeky virtual assistant called JaaS to aid in the running of several the meetups I organise. How I was able to interact with it using Azure Speech to text and Azure text to speech. How I gave it almost limitless knowledge by incorporating ChatGpt using the Azure Open AI service.
And how once created, it did not put anyone out of a job or take over the world.
DDD - À la carte
Amusing and comprehensive introduction to Domain Driven Design, including Beret, gaellic shrugging and hand waving.
Bird spotting on a Raspberry Pi with IoT Hub and Cognitive services
In this session we'll explore writing .Net code and deploying on a Raspberry Pi, interfacing with the hardware and Azure IoT Hub in the cloud. In this fun and introductory session we will take pictures when motion is detected in front of the camera, upload them to Azure IoT hub and then trigger an azure function to interrogate Azure cognitive services for the contents of the picture. We will show how messages could be sent back to the raspberry pi to take actions based on what has been spotted.
DevSecOps for .Net and Azure
Abstract: In this talk John will show how Azure Devops can be used to automate the deployment and security checks of a website in the Azure cloud using Azure Devops. In this talk we will go through how a variety of tools are used to gain security insights into your code and deployed environment. We will explore how this relates to the pull security left philosophy from DevSecOps. After the talk you will have gained a good insight into all the tools you can use to improve the security of your deployed code base.

Getting started with IoT on Raspberry Pi
Ever wondered how to make your code physically interact with things in the real world? Got a home automation project in mind? We will cover:
* How to get started with Raspberry Pi and C#
* The numerous sensors and actuators you can control
* How to navigate basic electronics
* Different interfaces and how to program them
* Physical demonstrations of devices at work
* Azure IoT Hub to control your code from a blazor app anywhere in the world
* Receive live events from the device and display them on the web
In this session we learn how to get set up programming in C# on your Raspberry Pi. We will program it to move things using solenoids, servos, check sensor readings and of course, blow things up, all using C#. As an extension to this, we will then control the Pi remotely using the cloud (Azure IoT hub) to control our new found capabilities from afar. We also use event hub to listen to live messages back from the device which are displayed on a blazor app This is a practical and hopefully fun demonstration on how you can get started quickly and explore this fascinating area of programming.
gRPC demystified
Intrigued by why some of the world's largest companies (Netflix, Google, Cisco, Twitter, Uber etc) are using gRPC? In this demo based talk we delve into the world of gRPC, what it does and why we should use it. We compare the interface with both Rest and graphQL. We will show you how to implement grpc server-side in .net and in the web. Finally, I will show you how the tooling helps you deliver powerful interfaces and interact with them quickly and simply.
