Jonathan Pasternak is a highly experienced bankruptcy and restructuring attorney who has built one of the largest debtor bankruptcy practices in the nation by volume. With more than 30 years of experience in bankruptcy law, he has represented clients in complex financial restructurings and court-supervised proceedings. He has served in both legal and advisory capacities, working with companies, lenders, investors, and fiduciaries to address distressed debt and operational challenges—his practice centers on corporate reorganization, disciplined financial review, and practical legal solutions.

Over a 36-year career in bankruptcy and restructuring, Jonathan has represented clients across a wide range of industries. His primary focus has been on the reorganization of private and public companies facing financial distress. He has advised hundreds of corporate and individual clients in Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases and negotiated workouts, recapitalizations, and asset sales to stabilize operations.

His work includes debtor and creditor representation, complex insolvency proceedings, and transaction-driven restructurings. Pasternak has worked closely with business owners, institutional lenders, equity stakeholders, and court-appointed fiduciaries responsible for overseeing troubled enterprises. In addition to core bankruptcy law matters, he has handled commercial real estate restructuring and finance-related engagements involving distressed properties and portfolio-level debt adjustments. In each matter, he has relied on careful financial analysis and structured legal planning while keeping business objectives clearly in view.

For more than 20 years, Jonathan managed a boutique bankruptcy law firm that became one of the leading Chapter 11 debtor firms in the United States based on case volume. While overseeing firm operations, he maintained an active caseload and worked directly with clients throughout reorganization and insolvency proceedings.

Operating a focused bankruptcy practice required consistent oversight, strategic case management, and steady client communication. His sustained contributions earned recognition from peers and professional organizations. In 2017, Pasternak was named YJP Professional of the Year for his long-term work in restructuring and insolvency. He was also recognized as a Super Lawyer for over 15 consecutive years and was regularly cited among the top 20 bankruptcy attorneys in the nation by volume of cases handled.

Jonathan graduated cum laude from The Pingry School and later earned a degree in American History and Literature from Brown University. He has served as a class representative for both institutions and remains active in alumni outreach efforts. His spouse and two of his three children are Brown University graduates, reflecting a lasting family connection to the university.

Jonathan has supported charitable and educational initiatives, including food and clothing drives and community programs connected to his alma mater. For 11 years, he served on the Board of Trustees of Temple Sinai of Bergen County, contributing to governance and fiduciary responsibilities. He has also provided pro bono legal services to individuals, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations.

Outside of his bankruptcy and restructuring practice, he is an accomplished musician and active performer within the legal community. He has also volunteered as a coach in Tenafly at both recreational and travel levels. Throughout his long career, Jonathan Pasternak has remained focused on guiding clients through financial distress with practical restructuring strategies, steady leadership, and long-term commitment.
