I am Dr. Joonyoung Lee, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at Jackson State University. Having earned my Ph.D. in Educational Psychology with a specialization in Sport Pedagogy and Motor Behavior from the University of North Texas in 2020, I bring a wealth of knowledge to my field. My passion for research is driven by a commitment to fostering health equity within underserved and underrepresented communities. By designing evidence-based intervention curricula and programs, I strive to make a tangible impact on public health. With a particular focus on Mississippi's minority populations, I endeavor to enhance health outcomes by developing cost-effective, multi-level interventions for school and home-based physical activity and motor skill programs targeting young children.

After School Yoga Intervention for Black Children's Mental Health

We will discuss mental health crises in grades K-5, specifically focusing on disparities among Black/African American children. We will present findings from a randomized experimental study investigating the impact of yoga in after school programs on their mental health. Attendees will learn about the integration of yoga in after school programs and its potential for improving mental health.
