The Builder’s Golden Ticket: My Journey to re:Invent via the ABW Grant
In 2025 I was awarded the AWS All Builders Welcome (ABW) Grant. The grants are life-altering in terms of changing your path as a builder. But what does that mean? How can you prepare for your chance to be part of this global builder community?
I will explain what the ABW Grant is during this 10-minute talk so that our attendees can understand how to apply, how I used my background as an SRE and research engineer to make myself stand out and the 'behind the scenes' experience of attending re:Invent as an ABW grantee.
The main points of my talk will be:
1. The Application Blueprint: How to tell the individual builder story.
2. The re:Invent Experience: This grant is so much more than just a complimentary ticket; it can be a game-changer for your career.
3. How to assist/thrive others in the Oceanic AWS community with your ABW Grant.
From Zero to Production: Foundations of AWS DevOps with Real-World Practices
This session is aimed at people building products who want to understand how things work in the real world (i.e., not just theoretically). I'll cover several of the basic building blocks of AWS and DevOps. There will be concrete examples of all of the concepts that we discuss (AWS IAM, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD Concepts, Deployment Workflows) from production environments so that we’ll get an idea of how the pieces fit together, why certain design decisions make sense, mistakes that are common for people just starting out, and patterns and practices that will help your team become productive faster, while not sacrificing reliability or security.
From my experience as Speaker from local Community of AWS User Group I will ensure my attendees should have a solid foundation to build on for understanding Modern DevOps in AWS, starting small, and developing confidence in your ability to work with cloud infrastructure.
Building Your First DevOps Agent: Automating Incident Response with Amazon Bedrock
Theme: Based on Generative AI and Machine Learning on AWS / DevOps practices.
Description: In the SRE world, "Mean Time to Recovery" (MTTR) rules all. But while the industry is caught up in the GenAI hype, how do we go from "chatbots" to production-ready autonomous systems?
My talk bridges the gap between research and real-time SRE practice. From my background as an award-winning researcher and practicing SRE, I will show how to go from simple LLM conversations to "DevOps Agents" using Amazon Bedrock and AWS Lambda. We will see how to architect a secure workflow where an AI agent doesn't just "talk," but actually analyzes CloudWatch logs, correlates multi-cloud anomalies, and writes Terraform remediation code.
As an AWS All Builders Welcome Grantee, I'm passionate about the practical and ethical application of these technologies. We will discuss the "Day 2" reality of GenAI: how to ensure your agents have the right guardrails to prevent hallucinations and maintain infrastructure integrity.
