Best practices for integrating AWS CDK into your enterprise cloud strategy
When working on an enterprise cloud strategy, the enterprise cloud platform is a key success factor for all cloud applications. The capabilities of the AWS platform will improve the quality and speed of application development. One of the components of a cloud platform is infrastructure as code (IaC), which is the foundation of any application.
In this session, we will explore how to integrate AWS CDK into an enterprise cloud platform. We will discuss what to consider when developing internal CDK constructs and using third-party CDK constructs to rely on reusable components. It is also important to consider the role of external IT companies to meet their needs and adapt their knowledge. Should we focus on specific CI/CD tools, programming languages, or AWS services? What are the implications for support organizations and timelines?
By the end of this session, developers and architects will have a broad understanding of the importance of clear IaC and platform strategies. They will be able to reflect on their overall setup within their organization and discuss optimization ideas with the platform team and management.
AppSync Merged API as an example to contribute to AWS CDK
In our AWS Community Builders hackathon, I noticed the lack of CDK support for the new AppSync Merged API feature. This talk shows how I added the Merged API feature to CDK. Starting with a feature request, talking to the AWS CDK team in the Contributor Office Hours and working on the pull request.
How to simplify building AWS CDK constructs with Projen
AWS CDK constructs are reusable cloud components that can be used to increase efficiency when building AWS based cloud solutions. AWS CDK constructs are developed as software projects. Dependency management, build steps, integration tests, managing versioning and releases, publishing to package managers are topics that must be considered when defining a new project.
Using AWS CDK constructs as an example, this talk explains how these software project configurations can be simplified with Projen, a new kind of project generator. A main difference between Projen and other templating tools is the recurring generation of configurations. Improvements in Projen are thus simply adopted in the configurations and do not have to be added manually to the existing templates.
How to build an enterprise chatbot with Amazon Q Business
GenAI is everywhere - but how do you use it in a business context for internal information? Amazon Q Business is designed as an enterprise chatbot and AI assistant. It offers integration with many enterprise applications, respects access control lists, and can be integrated into VPCs.
In this talk we will discuss how to configure Q Business and add data sources such as a web crawler and Confluence. We'll test basic Q Business features and verify that Q Business handles access control lists and doesn't leak information if users don't have access in the source application. We will see how plugins enable write operations (e.g. creating a Jira ticket) and how to build Amazon Q apps (similar to PartyRock apps).
