Karen Roddie, LSW, currently serves as the Sr. Program Manager, Programmatic Partnerships, at Communities In Schools (CIS), a national nonprofit focused on empowering students to stay in school and achieve in life.
In her role Karen identifies, manages, and evaluates high-quality programmatic partnerships to connect with CIS’ network of more than 3,000 schools in 25 states and DC. Prior to joining the CIS National Office, Karen worked with CIS’ affiliate in Chicago for 12 years, where she led the organization’s community partnership team and supported organizations offering behavioral and mental health services. She is also a trainer in Youth Mental Health First Aid.
In her free time, Karen enjoys traveling, enjoying nature, and exploring Chicago. She even wrote a book about these explorations titled, “Chicago in 77: My My travels for work, fun, and daily life through Chicago's community areas."

Utilizing Community Partners to go Deeper With SEL in the School Building

Research shows that SEL skills need to be taught each day of the school week. We also know teachers are busy with their own lessons, graduation requirements, and a variety of other mandates.
