Dr. Katherine Ball, DVM, PhD, is the Director of Veterinary Care at the Regina Humane Society. She earned her veterinary degree from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002 and brings a broad clinical background spanning individual animal care, clinical pharmacology, and shelter medicine—all grounded in evidence-based practice. Her PhD research focused on optimizing antimicrobial use and addressing the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance. At the Regina Humane Society, Dr. Ball participated extensively in the design of a purpose-built shelter, contributing subject matter expertise to ensure the facility promoted animal health and minimized disease risk. Her work has led to measurable improvements in animal outcomes and significant reductions in antimicrobial use, demonstrating how evidence-based strategies in shelter settings can improve animal welfare, protect public health, and advance One Health goals.
