The spark of a new passion and the start of her career began at the age of 12, when her mom taught her how to braid. Keyani obtained her Cosmetology license in 2005 from Meridian Community College, worked part-time through school and continued after finishing school, while working part-time at a daycare. Those daycare skills came in handy, because for years a lot of her clients were children. In 2011, Keyani decided to take her career to another, rented a chair at Bmadeover Hair Salon, and started working full-time. A few years later, she decided to pursue a new path in Esthetic and obtained her license in 2016. Esthetics school was a gamechanger and has played a pivotal role in who Keyani is today. Her instructor was a medical aesthetician, who’d built a successful career in Puerto Rico. Keyani learned a lot about product ingredients and her instructor was the first person she’d ever known to create a product. This sparked a new passion and interest that would lead to CHAT Skin and Hair Co. Keyani started formulating, researching, and testing products in 2016 and had developed her complete line by 2017. She officially incorporated the business in 2019, relaunched in 2020, COVID happened, and Keyani used the downtime to become Cosmetology Educator.
Keyani is a former Navy Service member, who served 4 ½ years after high school. She worked as a deck seaman and finished her career in the military as an Air Traffic Controller.
She has completed several entrepreneur programs throughout her career, the first being Entrepreneur Bootcamp for Veterans at St. Joseph University. Keyani learned the meaning of entrepreneurship and pitched in her first competition. She later attended the University of Alabama-Birmingham participating in their entrepreneurial program for students and facility. She was featured in the school's magazine and won Student Innovator of the Year. Keyani completed The Rosie Network Service2CEO entrepreneurial program and a few months later began the journey as a Chapter Lead, helping to supporting other military connected entrepreneurs, including kidpreneurs.
Keyani’s has served on the Board of the Alabama Women in Business as the social media manager and president. Her current roles are focusing on building a better industry for future professionals, facilitating scalp & hair hygiene and grooming trainings, and working with The Rosie Network Kidpreneurs.
