I'm a long time software engineer. Currently work at Torq.io as Chief Architect.
I started my journey as a Windows Internals engineer (C,C++) in the field of cyber security. For the past 10 years I've been working at multiple early stage SaaS startup companies in different roles as Technical Leader and IC. I am interested in GoLand, OpenTelemetry and everything development related.

gRPC: 5 Years Later, Is It Still Worth It?

Ever found yourself at a crossroads, deciding on a communication protocol for your backend applications? It's a pivotal choice that can shape your project's future. Five years ago, I took the plunge and went all-in on gRPC, embracing it for both backend-to-backend and frontend-to-backend communication.

Join me as I unravel the twists and turns of my gRPC adventure. I'll shine a light on the hurdles we faced and the victories we celebrated. But more importantly, I'll reveal why, looking back, I'm convinced we made the right call.

Whether you're a gRPC veteran or just protocol-curious, this talk will equip you with insights to make informed decisions for your own projects. Let's decode the gRPC experience together!

Efficient Debugging and Logging with OpenTelemetry in Go

We use OpenTelemetry extensively at Torq. In fact we are tracing 100% of our traffic. We started building the product with the idea in mind that we dislike logs and want to use them as little as possible.
Since then we have grown to 30 engineers and everyone is in love with OpenTelemetry. We use it during development and to debug issues in production. We have automations built around it, special middleware we developed for our internal libraries to report traces (orm, pubsub etc).
In this talk I will present OpenTelemetry, its core features and some cool features that are unique to GCP for tracing SQL queries.
We will build a simple microservice application that uses tracing with database, pubsub, grpc and demonstrate how we work with it to analyze bugs and performance issues.
I will discuss the various options for viewing the traces.
This can be either a talk or a tutorial.
I am giving this talk next month at Google so I will have some slides to share.
In the previous GopherCon people expressed interest in our usage of OpenTelemetry, so I think it will be a cool lecture.
