Maathangi Mohan is the Data Programs and Partnerships Lead at datocracy. She started her career as a decision scientist building analytics tools for Fortune 500 companies, and has spent the last several years asking what it would take to bring that same rigour to AI governance and capacity building in public institutions across the Global Majority. Today she leads AI and data literacy programs with government ministries, universities, and civil society organisations across South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Pacific.
Most recently, she designed and facilitated the Responsible AI and Governance curriculum for Africa AI Literacy Week in 2025, engaging researchers and practitioners across Africa. She has also led research supporting data governance and digital education regulatory frameworks at the regional level in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
Her work sits at the intersection of practical AI governance, institutional capacity building, and inclusive development, focused on equipping practitioners to govern the technologies they use, rather than simply use them.
