Marco Di Gennaro is a researcher and entrepreneur in artificial intelligence, with a strong background in theoretical physics. He holds a PhD from the University of Liège, where he specialized in condensed matter physics. After several years working at the intersection of industry and research, Marco founded ATOM - a venture specialised in Materials Informatics, and successively he become CTO at DTSC, where he created BRAIN (Belgian Research lab for AI in INdustry), the R&D arm of DT Services and Consulting.
As CTO in AI, Marco leads innovative projects in digital twins, smart mobility, and explainable AI, while fostering collaborations with universities, startups, and public institutions. His focus is on bridging academic excellence and industrial impact through the “Research as a Service (RaaS)” model, enabling companies to explore advanced AI topics without internal R&D teams.
Marco is also an advocate for applied AI, open collaboration, and sustainable innovation ecosystems in Belgium and beyond.

RaaS: Research as a Service by BRAIN
At BRAIN – the Belgian Research Lab for AI in Industry – we invented the Research as a Service model. Our mission is to bring scientific thinking to real-world problems.
Research as a Service means you, as a partner, come to us with a research question or technical curiosity. It could be: ‘How can I predict machine failure earlier?’ or ‘Is my AI model biased?’ or ‘Can we optimise energy flows in our buildings?’
We then take ownership of that question. We assemble the right team – from data scientists to PhD candidates to interns – and we explore the solution scientifically: building prototypes, running experiments, and producing clear, peer-reviewable results. The output can be a working proof of concept, a publication, a research note, or even a patent application.
