Marites Altuna is the Kansas Deaf-Blind Project Director at the Kansas State School for the Blind. She graduated from UMKC with a bachelor’s degree in Speech and Hearing Science. She received her master’s degrees in Early Childhood Special Education and Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Kansas. In addition, Marites obtained her training in deaf-blindness from Utah State University and visual impairments from Missouri State University. She is currently a doctoral student at Baker University.
Marites actively serves the community in various roles as a member of the Kansas Early Childhood Recommendations Panel; Juniper Gardens Children’s Project Community Advisory Board; Women’s Chamber Network Advisory Committee; Ambassador Kansas City Kansas Chamber of Commerce; Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Kansas City Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Access, KC Blind All-Stars Foundation Board, secretary of the Filipino Association of Greater Kansas City and 2nd Vice-President of the Kansas City Downtown Lions Club.
